Universiti Malaya: PENDEKAR SE’ABAD 4

As suggested by the NTU Silat Club coach Mr Ilyas Hakim Jamaluddin, I’ve finally managed to steal some time to update about the not so recent Universiti Malaya: Pendekar Se’abad 4 competition which was held from 21-24 February 2008 ( sorry coach  ). As being the only representative from Singapore, NTU Silat Club, represented by 10 athletes and headed by its coach, Mr Ilyas and Team Manager, Miss Herni, was not cowed by the intense pressure it faced and managed to bring glory to the school. Here is a reproduced of the email sent out by Mr Ilyas to summarise the achievement of NTU Silat Club in the land of the Twin Towers…

Dear Celine,
The team of 10 athletes led by Coach, Ilyas and Team Manager, Herni has safely returned to Singapore. A total of 10 teams comprising of 7 schools participated in the event. We are the only representative from Singapore.
In all, the team competed in 11 events: 9 in Tanding (sparring) & 2 in Seni (artistic) category; of which we garnered 8 medals. The team has displayed great camaraderie and sportsmanship throughout the 5 days. They cheered their hearts out for every teammate spurring them on and every athlete did his/her best in the respective events. I strongly believe that each one of them has learnt valuable lessons from this competition and they are on course to develop into more competent Pesilats.
Here are the results of the competition:

Gold
Shedah – Tanding Women Class ‘D’
Silver
Syaza – Tanding Women Class ‘C’
Raihan – Tanding Men Class ‘J’
Syaza, Hajar & Liyana – Women’s Regu (Team Artistic Event)
Bronze
Liyana – Tanding Women Class ‘A’
Azwandi – Tanding Men Class ‘G’
Yusoff – Tanding Men Class ‘I’
Azim – Tanding Men Class Open
Quarter-Finals
Firdaus – Tanding Men Class ‘E’
Shahid – Tanding Men Class ‘F’
Tunggal (Solo Artistic Event)
Hajar – 4th position out of 7 participants

A special mention to my assistants, Herni for managing the team’s welfare and administrative matters well and to Raihan, the team’s captain, for motivating and keeping the team together throughout the competition.
On behalf of the athletes, I would like to thank you for your continuous support and interest in our club. It has helped us a lot, especially for this recent trip.
Yours Sincerely,
Ilyas Hakim J.
Coach
NTU Silat Club
