Universiti Malaya: PENDEKAR SE’ABAD 4

Posted in NTU, Silat, Universiti Malaya Competition with tags , , , , , on April 10, 2008 by ntusilat

As suggested by the NTU Silat Club coach Mr Ilyas Hakim Jamaluddin, I’ve finally managed to steal some time to update about the not so recent Universiti Malaya: Pendekar Se’abad 4 competition which was held from 21-24 February 2008 ( sorry coach  ). As being the only representative from Singapore, NTU Silat Club, represented by 10 athletes and headed by its coach, Mr Ilyas and Team Manager, Miss Herni, was not cowed by the intense pressure it faced and managed to bring glory to the school. Here is a reproduced of the email sent out by Mr Ilyas to summarise the achievement of NTU Silat Club in the land of the Twin Towers…

Clearing The Cobwebs

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on March 27, 2008 by ntusilat

It’s been a long time since I paid a visit here…

Time for some spring-cleaning…

Made a few changes:

  1. Changed the face of the website (bored of the old look).
  2. Opened up a yahoo account for ntusilat (ntusilat[at]yahoo[dot]com[dot]sg).
  3. Opened up a flickr account (store ntusilat photos and can hotlink from there).
  4. Transformed the look of the media player.
  5. Replaced Raya song with Rock song.

That’s about it.

Feedbacks are appreciated.

Adios!

Red Moon Rising

To those attending the NTU Silat Welcome Tea 2007 this evening, keep a lookout for the lunar eclipse yah.

You can observe the moon at about after 7.15pm if the weather is clear.

The moon will have a red hue to it due to it being in the shadow of Earth.

Have an enjoyable NTU Silat Welcome Tea 2007, training under the red moon! :P

The lesson is in the struggle, not in the victory ~ Anonymous

Yesterday marked the last official silat training for the NTU Silat Club before the commencement of the NUS Tertiary Silat Championships ‘07.

To those who have sacrificed for this long, hard struggle, now is the time to display your ultimate best once the gong is struck.

May our prayers accompany you once you’ve stepped into the mat.

All the best and good luck!

No retreat! No surrender!

“Prove not to others, not to me and not to your friends. Prove to yourself! ~ Coach Ilyas”

(Addendum: The exact quote is lost on me, but the essence is preserved. Apologies.)

Day Three

Posted in Uncategorized on May 28, 2007 by ntusilat

Another series of trainings were planned for the Pesilats by Miss Farah which included a gym session followed by skills trainings. No obvservations nor photographs were recorded as your friendly, neighbourhood cameraman left early due to his deteriorating health conditions and the need to settle other stuffs.

Before we conclude this NTU Silat IVP Training Camp series, I leave you with this picture and quote.

“Aim for the sky, if you miss pray hard that you’ll land on the tree ~ Anonymous”

Day Two

Posted in Uncategorized on May 28, 2007 by ntusilat

Continuation…

This is what you get after a gruelling night of training. A long line of wet, sweaty, smelly and (add any adjectives that convey the same sentiment) silat uniforms and the like. Well you can’t fault NTU Pesilats desire to give their all even during training. Keep it up!

After catching up on their well-deserved slumber, it was back to business with an early morning run lead by PTI ‘Bruce’ Nasir. Can you feel the enthusiasm displayed by them?

Two more training sessions were conducted after breakfast and lunch respectively. But due to unforseen circumstances, your friendly, neighbourhood cameraman weren’t able to capture these events. Boo!

And like the night before, another training session was organized. What more can you write about trainings except that they were always tough. Really respect the Coaches and Pesilats!

After training there was a briefing about the Silat rules and regulations by our Coach Ilyas and points of improvement for the Pesilats to dream about during the night’s sleep.

“NTU YOU READY??? Oops! ~ ‘Bruce’ Nasir”

This conclude the second day of events. Thanks for reading. Aufwiedersehen!

To those who wish to view your matches during the last NUS-NTU Friendlies, feel free to hop over to the NUS Silat webbie. Currently they have a collection of the matches which you can watch by video-streaming. Alternatively if you want a hardcopy, you can contact me, your friendly neighbourhood cameraman. Adios!
